Year: 2020

2020 – Roller Coaster Ride

I recall as a young child learning thaWelcome 2021t a new, enormous roller coaster – the “Great American Scream Machine” – was in operation at Six Flags over Georgia, just west of Atlanta. The Scream Machine (still in operation) is a wooden coaster which, at the time, was the tallest, longest, and fastest in the world. Riders were given a “Red Badge of Courage” for the experience!

We lived 90 minutes north of Atlanta and visited Six Flags many times. The Scream Machine was the main attraction for me. We would stand in line to ride and then get back in line to ride again, such was the exhilaration experienced each time.

Reflecting upon the year that was 2020, it has been like a “Scream Machine” experience for all of us. We have heard people describe certain seasons of life as being like a roller coaster – but when considering 2020, the saying has real and special meaning!

On behalf of the entire QIC team, we want to wish you a Happy New Year! While we might be excited to see 2020 behind us, let us embrace 2021 with enthusiasm and high expectations. This roller coaster year has impacted everyone professionally, personally, and privately.

Professionally, our organization has grown in ways that would not have occurred otherwise. We are so proud of our associates’ willingness to embrace new methods and processes to maintain our high standard of service to our clients.

Personally, we have all experienced levels of disruption and change brought about by COVID-19. Our normal routines were turned upside down, altering traditional holiday gatherings, public activities, worship, leisure, and more.

Privately, we all wrestle with obligations and decisions that can impact our safety and those we love and care about.

As we begin 2021, we encourage you to approach the new year with resolve and reflection. Continue to be resolute in being safe for yourself and others. As you reflect on the year that was 2020, resolve to never take for granted the gifts of life, love, and relationships. While this ride is not over and will carry over into the new year, a better day is coming. Perhaps we should all be given a Red Badge of Courage.

Wishing you a safe, happy, and prosperous New Year from the QIC family!

Engagement and Discretionary Energy

The link between employee engagement and stronger performance is readily apparent, especially in today’s working environment.  With Thanksgiving upon us, many (optimistically) anticipated that by now we would be experiencing a return to, if not normal, at least something closer than our present situation.  As a result, a genuine respect and appreciation for employees who… Read more »

A Positive View Toward the Future

With a positive view toward the future, there will come a time when COVID-19 and its global outbreak will not occupy every major headline and conversation.  The pandemic continues to present immense challenges, even as we approach the midpoint of 2020.  While the cost has been high, response in all areas of society has been… Read more »

A Shift from Defensive to Offensive Measures

We have been in a defensive posture for some time now, as stay-at-home orders and social distancing measures seem to have been somewhat effective in lessening the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic.  While the situation is far from over, there are positive indications that moving forward with caution is now possible.  The analogy does… Read more »
